Claire Helene Bevan holds a B. Mus. degree in Piano Performance with pedagogy emphasis from the University of Southern Maine, studying piano with Dr. Laura Kargul and Dr. Annie Antonacos, and pedagogy with Christine Kissack. She teaches private piano lessons at The Piano Room in Camden, a studio she took over from her mother in 2016. She is a regular pianist at her church where she plays solo repertoire in a variety of genres and enjoys collaborating with different vocalists. Previously, she taught private piano lessons at the Riley School in Rockport and Pine Tree Academy in Freeport.
She was exposed to great live concerts in Belgium where she grew up, and at age four, she apparently insisted that her mother, who holds an M.M. in piano performance from Indiana University, teach her. Her piano journey began with the Suzuki method and comprised many fond occasions stretched out under the piano, listening to her mother play.
The USM faculty awarded her a talent scholarship for the duration of her studies, and she was an honor recital participant. She received a student achievement teaching recognition award from the Music Teachers National Association. She also studied with Glenn Jenks of Camden and Dr. Marie Jureit-Beamish at Principia College, Illinois. She was coached by Cheryl Tschanz Newkirk of Waterville, Virginia Eskin of Boston and George Sebastien Lopez (Bowdoin Beckwith artist-in-residence).
I whole-heartedly agree with Felix Mendelssohn who wrote that, "Genuine music (...) fills the soul with a thousand things better than words." It is my mission to help students encounter this.
Claire Helene lives in Camden where she enjoys singing with the Down East Singers and baking professionally.
